Patient Support Groups

Establishing NMRFoundation Support Groups throughout the country is an important goal. Assisting the vast number of PMR/GCA/TA (autoimmune patients) communicating with other patients and their caretaker, receiving up-to-date- professional health support introduces the platform-base to feel “in control”.

NMRFoundation Support Group will be chartered to consist of ten/twelve people who share similar concerns, share “what works for them” share names of physicians that are “patient tested! Important is developing companionship with peers, “who have been there”, and need understanding!

An NMRFSupport Group invites patient caretakers requiring continual advice and information to assist their patient. Group members will encourage companionship, “partnering” toward an individual’s support* and education concerning the on-going change of their physical symptoms.

NMRFoundation is positioned to receive cutting-edge information concerning autoimmune diseases through our association with other dedicated and committed institutions. NMRFoundation serves as the Patient Advocacy representative for PMR/GCA/TA, on the steering committee of the Vasculitis Clinical Research Consortium (VCRC) Boston, Mass. The VCRC is comprised of:

• Boston University School of Medicine
• Cleveland Clinic Foundation
• Johns Hopkins School of Medicine
• Mayo Clinic College of Medicine

The VCRC goal is to improve patient care with vasculitic (autoimmune) diseases.

NMRFoundation established a presence/partnership in the United Kingdom, in February, 2006. A volunteer desired to organize the first United Kingdom Support Group in Scotland. NMRF provided guide-lines; printed brochures/materials; continuing strategy and encouragement. Today UK Support Group expansion continues.
